Featuring Australian jazz legend, Mike Nock as the featured composer. Orchestra members Murray Jackson, David Theak, John Hibbard and Sean Wayland re-arranged classic compositions by Australian jazz’s elder statesman specifically for CD. Also includes arrangements by,  and a special guest appearance by, Nock on Piano. This project received critical acclaim both in Australia and the US and was a featured act at 2007 Wangaratta Festival of Jazz.

In 2010 the mothership orchestra commissioned Canadian composer Dave Lisik to compose a major work featuring tenor saxophonist Bob Sheppard and trumpeter Alex Sipiagin based on James Vance Marshall’s ‘the Children’. Recorded in August 2011 at Australia’s leading studio 301, the CD features some incredible playing by the orchestra (not to mention our heayweight guest artists) captured superbly by Tasmanian engineer, Stewart Long.

Kristin Berardi meets the JMO

Jazz vocalist Kristin Berardi made National headlines when she won the Montreux Jazz Festival’s International Vocal Competition in 2006. Since that historic achievement, Kristin has established a reputation as Australia’s finest jazz singer, with International and Domestic Festival appearances and critically acclaimed CD releases. In 2007 Kristin was the recipient of the Music Council of Australia/Freedman Fellowship which allowed Kristin to commission some of the worlds most dynamic young composers to arrange her compositions for jazz orchestra. Kristin’s warmth and incredible vocal control have made her a favourite with Australian and NY audiences and now she adds the mothership orchestra to her long list of collaborators.

Dream Wheel - featuring Florian Ross 

Birdland Records, released 2007 

Live CD recorded at the final concert of the Orchestra’s 2006 National tour with German Pianist/Composer Florian Ross. Ross is one of Europe’s leading lights in jazz composition and performance. Winner of the Danish Radio Orchestra Jazzpries and the NDR Composition Prize, Florian’s writing allows the full power and subtlety of the orchestra to be expressed. This CD captured the spirit of the mothership in full flight.  Beautifully captuered by Ross Ahearn using Pyramix, this project was critically acclaimed in the US and Australia.
